Carlos F. Orta

Carlos F. Orta is the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Hispanic Association on Corporate Responsibility (HACR).

Since joining HACR in April 2006, Carlos has developed programs instrumental in helping HACR accomplish its mission of advancing the inclusion of Hispanics in corporate America at a level commensurate with Hispanics’ economic contributions.
Among the programs that Carlos has led are:  
  • HACR CEO Roundtable – an annual gathering of CEOs of the nation’s top Fortune companies that discuss diversity and Hispanic inclusion
  • HACR Young Hispanic Corporate Achievers – an annual program that identifies future Hispanic corporate executives at Fortune 500 companies
  • HACR Corporate Directors Summit – an annual summit that brings together Hispanics currently serving on corporate boards and Fortune 500 companies to discuss and share best practices
Prior to joining HACR, Carlos worked at Anheuser-Busch, Inc., Ford Motor Company, and Waster Management Inc. in a variety of government, foundation, and external affairs roles.
 
Carlos’ public sector experience includes work as a legislative aide for two former members of the Florida House of Representatives. Between 1993 and 1996, he served as executive director of the Miami-Dade County Legislative Delegation, which was Florida’s largest, most diverse, and bi-partisan legislative delegation, comprised of 27 elected officials.
 
Carlos has served on boards of directors of Padres Contra el Cáncer (Los Angeles), the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, the Missouri State Chamber of Commerce, the Kansas City Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. He also served on the board of Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Kansas City, Missouri, where he volunteered as a big brother and co-founded the Kansas City BBBS Hermanos/Hermanas Mayores initiative, which focused on recruiting Hispanic “Bigs” “Littles.”
 
In 2004, Carlos co-authored the executive order that created the Governor’s Commission on Hispanic Affairs in Missouri and led efforts that resulted in the establishment of the Hispanic Business Political Action Committee of Greater Kansas City.
 
Carlos is a 1995 graduate from Barry University of Miami, Florida and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Liberal Studies. Carlos is also a graduate of Leadership Florida (Class XV) of Leadership Miami. He currently serves on the Nationwide Hispanic Advisory Council of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the U.S.
