Guillermo Aviles-Mendoza

Mr. Guillermo Aviles-Mendoza is a licensed attorney with experience in organizational and international dispute resolution, health care, workforce diversity, ombudsman interventions, health systems, intellectual property, portfolio management, corporate compliance, biomedical sciences, public health, and legislative, public and global affairs. 

Guillermo has worked in multiple organizations including the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Environmental Protection Agency, Pan American Health Organization, and the Office of Public Health and Sciences at the Department of Health and Human Services.

Guillermo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Genetics and Cell Biology from the University of Minnesota, a Juris Doctor degree with a concentration in alternative dispute resolution from Hamline University School of Law and is currently working on a part-time basis towards a Masters of Laws (LL.M.) degree in Global Health Law at Georgetown University Law Center.

As Ombudsman and Diversity Counselor to the National Institutes of Health, Guillermo briefed upper management on strategies to achieve a diversified executive workforce that better represents the U.S. population. Guillermo is deeply committed towards the incremental representation of Latinos across the public and private leadership circles.

Guillermo is a Lieutenant Commander for the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps and serves as Program Coordinator of multiple public health projects in the Latin America and the Caribbean region. In his capacity as International Coordinator for the Department of Health and Human Services he leads the strengthening of public private partnerships to achieve sustainable interventions in the developing and least developed countries of the Region.

Guillermo is a published scholar in international regulatory health affairs, biomedical sciences and global intellectual property, public health and trade issues.

Guillermo was born in Puerto Rico, currently resides in Washington, DC and was recently married to Juliana Maia.
