Annette Quijano
Assemblywoman
New Jersey General Assembly
Assemblywoman Annette Quijano, Esq. is serving her first term in the New Jersey General Assembly as the first Latina representative for the 20th Legislative District, which includes Elizabeth City, Kenilworth Borough, Roselle Borough, and Union Township.
Come Grow with Us, Union County is one of her most recent initiatives to bring food producing gardens to non-profits and schools in Union County. The produce grown in these community gardens will serve to benefit local food pantries and senior facilities, which sometimes are not able to secure fresh produce.
Assemblywoman Quijano is the recipient of the Excellence in State Government Leadership award, and the Women of Excellence in Government award. In her free time, she takes pleasure in mentoring young adults who are considering law and graduate school.
Assemblywoman Quijano was born in Trenton, New Jersey, on July 4. She received her B.S. in Management form Rutgers, her J.D. from Rutgers School of Law, and her Project Management Certification from Villanova University.
To help serve families that are suffering with job losses and mounting debts, Assemblywoman Quijano has brought Trenton to Union County through a series of workshops. She has committed herself to providing constructive bilingual services to constituents and organizing in-district workshops for businesses – big and small – and diverse constituent groups.
In her short tenure in the Legislature, she has worked aggressively in bringing a new host of jobs to her district. Currently, she is helping district youths find employment through an array of Stimulus Summer Programs. Her understanding of challenges facing working families has proved invaluable to ensuring the rights of hard working New Jerseyans. She has been the primary sponsor of many important bills that affect her constituents including legislation to enhance workers’ rights, provide foreclosure counseling and assistance, create County Homeless Trust Funds, restructure businesses taxes and more!
Her most notable accomplishments include serving as an Assistant Counsel to Governors James McGreevy, Richard Codey, and Jon Corzine. Assemblywoman Quijano has also served on the United Way Hispanic Advisory Council of Union County, the Governor’s Working Group for Hispanic Affairs, and as a Commissioner for New Jersey’s Congressional Redistricting efforts. Honing those skills has enabled her to use them in her effort to bring equality and common justice to her community.
