PRIMER is Hosted by Bank of America
01/14/2010

Dear PRIMER members:

Welcome to the new era of PRIMER! On January 14, 2010 PRIMER members and guests witnessed a momentous transition. The PRIMER baton, or in this case the gavel, was officially transferred from the distinguished founding father, Daniel Guadalupe, to me. Upon completion of the transfer, it was with utmost respect that I acknowledged the accomplishments of the "Fantastic Four-Fathers" and thanked the out-going board of directors for their dedication and leadership.

The new Board of Directors was officially introduced: Rose Casiano, Executive Vice President; Steven Mendez, Treasurer; Ruben Muniz, Vice President of Membership; Rene Rodriguez, Vice President of Communications; Mary E. Medina, Secretary to the Board; and, Pierre Bonnefil, General Counsel. And, a token of appreciation was presented by the incoming board to Daniel Guadalupe for his leadership style – one marked with "Consilio et animis" [wisdom and courage].

Special thanks to José García and Izzy Maldonado for serving as our hosts and Bank of America for their generous sponsorship. (We tip our hats to you José and Izzy for making this another stellar event!)

The significance of the evening was personified in the keynote address delivered by Cristóbal Conde, President and C.E.O. of SunGard. Mr. Conde presented a stimulating and thought-provoking speech on leadership, the structure of collaboration, peer recognition and flattening technologies. Many of Mr. Conde’s leadership principles would continue to be discussed by the Board the following morning at the breakfast meeting.

Our PRIMER events continue to grow and attract many distinguished guests and members. Our newest members are:

  • Frank Rodriguez, C.E.O. and General Counsel, Corporate Creations International
  • Angel Herrera, Regional Vice President, Aramark Higher Education
  • Hector Perez, Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers and National President of Association of Latino Professionals in Finance and Accounting
  • Irene Gutierrez, Licensed MSW, Entrepreneur, LAUSD Psychotherapist

We were also honored to acknowledge the appointment of PRIMER member Eugene Marsh by President Obama to the Minority Business Roundtable. The group has been charged with studying the disparity in minority business practices. Eugene is also being honored by the NAACP later this year. Kudos Eugene!

Finally, the evening was concluded with members and guests agreeing to reconvene the next morning to attend the "PRIMER Strategic Directions 2010" breakfast meeting. The focus of the breakfast was, "What can PRIMER do for you?" We will be sharing the identified priorities and recommendations with all of you in the coming months. (For those of you unable to attend the breakfast, please forward your thoughts and/or suggestions to Charlie Garcia.)

I want to thank all of you for making PRIMER a first class "familia". I look forward to strengthening the fabric of PRIMER, ensuring its continued growth, and securing a legacy for our children’s children.

Un gran abrazo,

Daniel Gutierrez,

President
